Lawrence West

Scott Pilgrim vs. the Universe

Lawrence West Pilgrim (b. December) is Scott and Stacey Pilgrim's younger brother.

History[]

Scott Pilgrim graphic novels[]

He indefinitely loans Scott his bass guitar during Scott's college days and comes to get his bass (now destroyed, unbeknownst to Lawrence) back at the end of Volume 5, whereupon Scott mistakes him for Gideon and knocks him down with an impressive railing butt slide and kick combo.

He is mentioned a few times while off-panel, twice while letting a new friend in to bother Scott while he is playing video games (Lisa and Wallace), and once being called to dinner by his mother.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game[]

Lawrence also appears in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game as a background character.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off[]

He also briefly appears in Scott Pilgrim Takes Off on two occasions, firstly appearing at Scott's funeral in "A League of Their Own", where he is seen sitting next to his parents and Stacey, and secondly in "2 Scott 2 Pilgrim" where he is seen celebrating Scott and Ramona's wedding and anniversary in the Good Memoroies slideshow that Old Scott Pilgrim owned.

Appearance[]

Unlike Scott and Stacey, Lawrence wears glasses. He has black hair in the comics, brown in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game and Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. He is of average build and is usually seen wearing a light jacket over a polo shirt.

Trivia[]

  • Despite being Scott and Stacey's brother, Lawrence's last name is given as "West". According to artist and writer, Bryan Lee O'Malley, Lawrence West is his given name and his full name is Lawrence West Pilgrim[1]. The name Lawrence West is a reference to a subway stop in Toronto.
  • Lawrence was originally planned to have a much larger role in the comic, working with Gideon and the Twins. This was possibly because he owed them a debt, according to Bryan Lee O'Malley. Julie was eventually used instead for the Twin collaboration.[2]
  • His birthday is in December.[3]
  • While he was originally 21 (later 22) in his earliest rendition, his actual age in the final comics is unknown. All that is known currently is that he's younger than Scott.
